Rant #2,894: Bits and Pieces

Today at the Blog we will go through another round of “Bits and Pieces,” where I talk about a couple of topics that I don’t feel need or require full entry coverage.

We have not had a “Bits and Pieces” segment for a while, so I guess the time has come.

Here goes …

Prison Guard, Inmate Lover Apprehended: This certainly ranks as the most bizarre story of the year thus far, where a decorated, beloved and ready-to-retire prison guard flew the coop with her inmate lover … and no one can figure out when she did it.

Look, we can figure out why the inmate did it.

This 6-foot-9-inch piece of garbage needed an out of his jail term, where he was incarcerated for the murder of a woman some years ago.

But the jail guard?

She had everything going for her.

Not only was she ready to retire and hit up a nice, fat pension, but she was ready to go out as “Jail Guard of the Year” in Alabama.

Look, even if we are talking about a murderer and a law enforcement officer, we are talking about two human beings, and at least the jail guard evidently fell for this raging hulk of a loser, and fell so hard that she lost all of her thinking processes along the way.

And when she finally came to, she shot herself in the head to end it all.

Good riddance, I guess, and now, the prisoner will never have any chance at all to get out of prison anytime during his lifetime.

Was it worth it for probably a couple of rolls in he hay with his foolish girlfriend?

We will never know, and we will never know the reason why she fled with this felon, either.

Love is bliss, I guess, no matter who is involved.

Gas Prices Soar: As part of this inflationary mode we are in right now, gas prices have gone nuts, and I mean truly nuts.

They have reached historic levels per gallon across the country, and if things continue like they are, “California, Here We All Come,” to paraphrase, because gas prices are well over $5 in that state, and it won’t be too soon before gas prices in every state are at that level.

The blame can be put on crude oil prices, whi9ch in turn, can be blamed on the war in the Ukraine (yes, we are punishing Russia and Putin, but American citizens are toiling the load).

American car companies pitch hybrid and electric cars as a solution but a) the cars are priced much higher than conventional gas guzzlers ('natch), and you can’t even get a new car, because of supply chain issues related to certain parts of the new cars.

So what are poor peons like us to do?

I guess we just have to grin and bare it, because I don’t see too many people getting their bicycles out of storage and riding them wherever they have to go, that’s for sure.

My Employment Situation: I just had to put this one in, because two and a half years afar the fact, and after I was pushed into the abyss, I continue to get job announcements several days a week in my email …

Or should I say, in my spam, because that is where I have directed them to go.

I gave it a solid year to find something for myself, on all levels of the job spectrum, and there was nothing there.

Now, certain jobs are going wanting, people are leaving their jobs looking for something better, and some companies are so desperate for workers that they are giving them the moon and the stars to sign on the dotted line.

I see what I am sent, and honestly, most of the jobs are ones that I would never get hired for under any situation, but in particular right now.

I am 65 years of age, and if I couldn’t get hired when I was 62, there is no way that I am going to get hired when I am 65 … and that fact has been pointed out to me by several people who I have spoken with during my abyss period,

Although I didn’t want to believe it when I was actively looking for work, I can believe it now that I am semi-retired and am on Social Security.

All I can say is that I will continue to get these job notices into the future, and I can think about what might have been, what could have been, and what should have been.

The workforce lost a great worker in me, and I have to look at it as their loss, not mine.

The Yankees’ Great Start to the 2022 Season: Nope, I admit it, I thought the Yankees were going to have a really rough go at it this season …

But boy, after this small smidgen of 30 games having been played this season, I have to say that I was wrong, wrong and wrong about this team, just like most baseball fans were (admit it!).

They have the best record in baseball at 22-8, their pitching is the best in baseball (starters and relievers), and Aaron Judge appears to be playing for a $40 million a year contract by being the best player on the planet right now.

If the Yankees continue to do this, they will win between 116 and 119 games this season, which I don’t think they will be able to do, but what do I know?

The World Series is the goal, the 28th championship in team history is the real goal, and is it doable this season?

Let’s see how the next 132 games pan out, but right now, I don’t know if I am a (get ready for the Monkees references here) “Daydream Believer” or a full-fledged “I’m a Believer” about this team that I have rooted for during my entire life.

So there it is, a couple of morsels for you to chew on.

What do you think about these subjects?

Please let me know.
