Rant #2,893: I Believe

On this 131st day of the year, I feel like I have nothing in the tank.

As I have said many times over the 13 years that I have been doing this Blog, there are days that I know exactly what I want to talk about with the day's Blog entry, and I go right at it.

Then there are days that I decide what to write about right at the moment when I begin typing out the day’s blog …

And there are other days, like today, that I really don’t have a clue about what to write about.

So I guess today is the day that I finally write about the chaos going on in Washington and in the country right now related to that leaked document on abortion that evidently came from someone who has great connections with the Supreme Court.

This is one of those “I don’t want to touch this with a 10-foot pole” subjects, so I am only writing about this because my plate is empty right now and I don’t know what else I want to talk about today.

First off, honestly, this issue is really not that important  to me, personally … I am more concerned that the price of gas is getting closer to $5 a gallon by the minute.

But if you press me about abortion, I will tell you that I am on the pro-abortion side of things, and have been for as long as I can remember.

However, I do not believe that abortion should be used as a birth control method, and I do believe that women who find themselves in this position—and the men who got them there—both share in this incredible responsibility.

If you are old enough to participate in the act, then you are old enough to have to face the consequences if a pregnancy occurs.

Of course, there are different circumstances, such as when a rape occurs, and this type of situation is not what I am talking about.

I am talking about when a man and a woman, for whatever reason, comingle to the ultimate point, and a pregnancy occurs.

Now that that is out of the way, what do I think about the leak?

I think the leaked document was lmade public by someone very close to the court—perhaps a staff member—or even perhaps by one of the justices themselves, to make the Republicans look bad as the mid-term elections are coming up.

The Democrats have much to worry about and to lose in November, in particular with rising inflation and other issues hitting everyone where it hurts.

So why not throw this document into the firs to get everyone riled up and give the Democrats a fighting chance at the polls on Election Day?

Remember, this is a preliminary document, so it is subject to change.

But the implication is that this decision—again, this is a preliminarily document, not a final document—was being pushed through by the conservative side of the Supreme Court … meaning the justices that President Trump named during his tenure, a four-year period where, inextricably, he was able to name three justices to mirror his beliefs and feelings--

Just like every president has done since Day One, and just like President Biden did with his latest Supreme Court choice.

So let’s stop this nonsense about the three conservative judges sabotaging the law of the land, because if the shoe was on the other foot, you just know that the liberal judges would do the same thing with their own policies and beliefs.

Personally, I would like the Roe v. Wade environment to continue, and if it does, fine, if not, maybe people will think twice about getting themselves into such a situation, maybe not.

But I believe that we need to know how this document was leaked, and exactly who did it.

If it was a staff member, that person should be outed.

And if it was a member of the Supreme Court, a precedent should be set, because this life member should lose his or her position on the court.

"You're fired!" if either one of these scenarios plays out, and remember, if a leak about abortion could come out like this, a leak on any number of subjects could be next, fully compromising the court and both its conservative and liberal factions.

Remember, this is a preliminary document ... not the final say on the court’s handing of the more than 50-year-old Roe v. Wade case.

I look at it, in a very minor way, as if a teaching assistant released to students a draft of a test that would eventually be given to students, doing so without the lead teacher’s permission.

That wouldn’t be right, and this more extreme situation isn’t right, either.

But again, I do believe that people should use their heads before using their body parts, and if they do, they won’t ever have to worry about such a thing.

But if this “thing” happens, I do believe that women should be able to end this pregnancy in a legal way … but I wouldn’t wish it on any women that I know, including my own daughter.

And, as an aside, it is interesting to look back at just who Roe was, People are getting hysterical on both sides of the aisle on this latest abortion speed bump, but who was Roe anyway?

(And no, you won't hear or read anything I am going to say now via the media, because they don't want you to know this.)

Norma McCrery spent most of her life as a symbol of abortion, and managed to do so on both sides of the matter.

In her early 20s, she was mired in poverty, had been abused as a child and as a young adult, and she became pregnant not once, but several times by the time that this particular pregnancy created something well beyond the pregnancy.

Her desire to abort this latest pregnancy put her in the eye of the storm as “Jane Roe,” sparked Roe v. Wade, and made her s symbol for women’s rights in the early 1970s.

However, later in her life, she pretty much abruptly defected from the pro-choice side, renouncing the movement that she had been a figurehead for, and in turn, found God and became a symbol of the anti-abortion movement.

Whatever side she was on, she never really rose above the hard life that led to her notoriety, living pretty much in poverty until she died in 2017.

Yes, the entire story is a sad one, and I do believe that we should treat this leak as to what it is, not a final decision by any means; we owe that to McCrery, at the very least.

And we should, in turn, focus our energies on more immediate ills that face the general population  like getting out of this inflationary period that we are in, which is current, now, and is disrupting many more lives in our country than abortion ever will.

There. I said it. Now I am putting this subject to bed, and hopefully for good.

Maybe others should follow my lead.
