Rant #2,391: Day By Day

After yesterdays' anniversary celebration, I just want to thank everyone that wished my wife and I "congratulations" on our big day.

Our "big day" was actually a big "poof."

We saw each other briefly in the morning before work, exchanged cards and kisses, and then I went off into the wild blue yonder with my car to work, where I spent an up and down day, all the while trying to arrange an appointment for my son with the dentist.

He evidently has to go to a special dentist for his root canal--I am not going to go into chapter and verse why, but he is a slightly "difficult" patient, not on purpose but because of various reasons--and not every dentist can work on him, and certainly not work on him when the work has to do with a tooth all the way back in his mouth.

Anyway, when work was done, I did my usual Thursday end-around with one addition: I went to a local fast food place to get something to eat on my way to the allergist for my shots (the addition this week) and then I picked up my son to go to his counselor, where the session ran until about 8 p.m. or so. Then it was back home, where my wife was pretty much ready to fall asleep.

We talked for a few minutes, then she was gone, and that pretty much was how we celebrated our anniversary.

Pretty much the same old, same old for Thursdays in recent times for us.

We will do better this weekend, where my wife and I, and our son, will go out to celebrate the day,

But even that is going to be difficult, because my wife has to work on Saturday, so not knowing at this time what we are going to do this weekend, I will assume that we will go out on Sunday.

But you know what happens when you "assume" things.

So that pretty much sums up the big celebration for our anniversary, nothing with nothing, but we will try and make up for it sometime this weekend.

Now here is the segueway to the next topic on today's list ...

I can tell you for sure that we won't be eating donuts for our anniversary, even though today is "National Donut Day."

If you so desire, I believe that free donuts (or is it doughnuts?) are being given out at Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts (or just Dunkin' now, such a stupid name change), and you can celebrate with your favorite donut for free!

Yippee!

Actually, this morning, I did what I normally don't do during the workweek, and that is have cake as part of my breakfast.

We ran out of cereal--honestly, a rare occurrence in my house--and I had some toaster pancakes instead, but I still had plenty of milk in my cup, so I had some cake--not a donut, but a Devil Dog, sort of a distant cousin of the donut, in a funny way.

Shame on me for doing this, but I admit it, I did it. Nothing like a good sugar rush in the morning, I guess.

The Yankees won last night, so they salvaged one win after losing two to one of the worst teams in baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays.

I got to see very little of the game because as I said, I was running around doing my usual Thursday chores after a long workday, but at least they won without me cheering them on.

Maybe I will be able to watch more of the games when they play the Red Sox in England in a few weeks.

There is nothing like morning baseball to soothe the savage beast.

And now for those who say "Thank God It's Friday," well, they miss the point entirely, so I never understood this declaration.

You still have to get through a full workday on Friday to get to Saturday, so it is really "Thank God It's Friday Night" or better yet, "Thank God It's Saturday," and not "TGIF."

Why don't people get this 40 years after the fact that this saying was created?

I don't get it.

I don't get a lot of things.

But I do wish you a good weekend, and I will speak to you again on Monday.
