Rant #2,195: You're No Good

After a nice, relaxing weekend, it is back to the salt mine today.

We will see what this week brings.

But you might have missed it, since it happened on Friday, but there was a disturbing incident in Manhattan on Friday, and it needs to be spoken about more than the media covered it.

And no matter what side of the coin you reside in, you should be outraged.

During a federal court hearing, a lawyer for that fool that climbed the Statue of Liberty on July 4 to protest President Trump's policies on illegal immigrants said that his client would likely agree to a plea if she gets assurances that she won't go to jail.

You might remember that this individual--who shall remain nameless in this Rant--broke away from her group that was protesting Trump's policies, and unbeknownst to the group, began scaling the monument.

She stayed up there for hours, refusing pleas by various law enforcement officials to come down, and finally was taken down, hours after she forced a closing of the entire island because of her actions.

Defense lawyer Ron Kuby--yes, the disciple of of all-time liberal defense icon William Kunstler, and probably best known to the general public as a talk radio host--said a trial could be averted after the presiding judge in that court agreed under a special rule to hear misdemeanor charges in advance about whether the charge merited imprisonment.

The 44-year-old woman, who is a legal alien from the Congo, can get up to six months in prison for her actions.

Kuby said something to the affect that his client acted in "the highest traditions of non-violent civil disobedience" in her actions, using her climb to bring worldwide attention to the plight of children embroiled in the illegal immigration situation.

To further flaunt the situation, the woman showed up 15 minutes late for the hearing, and came with an entourage of supporters. This group reportedly included lawyers, public relations advisors, social media gurus, a personal associate and people from the fashion world.

With this group, she then evidently sang a song with these lyrics reported by the press: "America you (expletive), you drug addicts, you KKK, you fascist USA," and went off with her entourage.

The judge will make a ruling by October 1 whether this individual gets jail time or not.

Well, that is what happened according to the press, but based on what was reported, do you think this woman, and her supporters, have a least a screw loose?

And Kuby, who like Kunstler will defend any guttersnipe as long as he gets in front of the cameras, has the nerve to say that she was acting in "the highest traditions of non-violent civil disobedience" with her actions, forgetting the fact that with one slip, she could have fallen off the statue and been killed ... and what about those in law enforcement who went up there to cajole her to come down--her "non-violent civil disobedience" put all of them at equally great risk.

Furthermore, this person does not belong on the street--why she has been released to begin with has to be asked, but hasn't been--she belongs in Bellevue Hospital for mental observation.

Is she a hero? Putting people and herself at danger, closing Liberty Island because of her actions, and acting in an inappropriate manner in her court lateness, this is a hero?

To who?

If I were the judge--and again, this is New York City, where liberalism, or so-called liberalism has become a disease--I would throw the book at her, put her in jail for six months and even look into getting her citizenship revoked and have her sent back to the Congo.

There is one thing to protest legally, which whether you agree or disagree with their message, her group evidently was doing earlier on July 4 on Liberty Island. They have the right to say what they want to say, believe in what they want to believe in, and do what they want to do, under the country's constitution.

But to do what she did--and from which her group actually separated themselves from during the incident, with group officials stating that they emphatically had no idea that she was going to do what she did--is not protesting within "the highest traditions of non-violent civil disobedience," it is putting people, and yourself, in grave danger, diverting law enforcement from other duties, and, well, making a pest of yourself.

And her flaunting of what she did--and her sort of emerging semi-celebrity status--demonstrates just how twisted this country is at the moment, and more specifically, how mentally deranged this woman and her followers actually are.

Look, you do not have to agree with all my characterizations here, but ask yourself this one question, and I think we will all be in agreement:

Is what this woman did ultimately productive at all in any way, shape or form?

No, with the danger involved, I don't think it was ... and it certainly wasn't protest in "the highest traditions of non-violent civil disobedience."

She should be thrown in the clink and learn what justice really is.
