Rant #2,102: Good Morning, Good Morning

And good morning to you from the Ranting and Raving Blog.

How is everyone today?

I hope everyone is well.

I woke up with a bad headache after sleeping off and on since about 9 p.m., and after visiting the doctor yesterday, it was confirmed that I have what I thought I had ... a typical, garden variety cold that just has to work its way out of my system.

And when I woke up this morning, and every weekday morning, who was the first person--other than my wife--that I saw in the morning?

Anne-Marie Green, that's who.

And before you jump to any Stormy Daniels conclusions about me, I am talking about the Anne-Marie Green who anchors the CBS Morning News during the week on what used to be called the Tiffany Network.

I like Green as a newscaster, but since she plies her trade in the early hours of the morning, I don't think that most people know who she is.

Green, who will turn 47 in September, is a true professional television journalist. As the anchor of this broadcast--which leads into the local New York Metropolitan Area news in New York, and often the local news elsewhere in the country--she does her job well, delivering a no-nonsense approach to the news, but she seems to also have a bit of a sense of humor, too, and occasionally she displays it when it is warranted.

But generally, if what you desire is the news in the morning, not side-talking, bashing, or personal opinions, you can't go wrong with Green, a Canadian by birth who worked her way up in her home country's TV news chain before getting her first news job in the U.S. in Philadelphia at KYW-TV, a CBS affiliate, where she handled numerous new roles for the station.

In October 2012, Green was named a substitute anchor for CBS News Up to the Minute, which morphed into CBS Overnight News, the show preceding Green's current show.

On January 21, 2013, she was named anchor of the CBS Morning News, and has held that position now for more than five years, and in doing so, I feel that she is CBS News' best-kept secret, because how many people wake up at 4 a.m. to watch this newscast?

Well, I do at least, and I find Green pretty engaging. She has that girl-next-door look, but she kind of tempers that by being a polished journalist, leading a fairly young group of broadcasters to deliver the news at such an early hour.

Green is married to Algemong Allen, described as a restaurateur and a Philadelphia community activist, and I don't think she has any children.

So when I am eating my breakfast and preparing for my workday, pretty much the first voice I hear each weekday morning is Green's, and I guess I can say it is a sound for sore ears to hear her voice as much as it is a site for sore eyes when I actually see her on the screen.

If you can't sleep, are ever up at this early time of the morning, give her show a try. I think you will find that Green is really good, delivers the goods in a straightforward manner, and yes, she can crack a smile more often than not.

I know it's a pain to be up so early in the morning, but when you see talent like this in action, it makes it all a bit easier to take.
