Rant #1,782: Having a Party

This past Saturday we celebrated my wife's xxth birthday with a party at a local all you can eat Chinese restaurant.

We had 25 people come and celebrate with us, and we all had a fine time.

I chose the restaurant because it is the only all you eat place that my wife likes, and I figured if I was going to spend the money for this, I might as well do it there.

We weren't supposed to get our own room, but due to some bizarre circumstances--the people who were sitting in the area that we had reserved refused to move when asked--we were able to get a room for the party, and I didn't have to pay extra for it.

(At this restaurant, you can only get a room when you have 30 people in a party. We were five short.)

Anyway, with friends and relatives in attendance, my wife celebrated a major milestone birthday in style, and I was very happy that I could swing it.

She got some very nice presents, but the real present was seeing everybody together in one place.

And the next thing that my family is going to celebrate is actually two things: my father's 85th birthday and his retirement.

We will have that celebration in early December.

He had a slight health scare yesterday--he had some pains in the right side of his body, but a doctor determined it came from lifting heavy packages and that it was a classic mix of a charley horse and arthritis--and he is doing fine now.

So we look forward to that occasion, and then, next year, I, myself hit the big 6-0 in April.

I will leave it to my wife to put something nice together, and I know that she will do just that.

And back to my wife ...

If I said it once, I said it a thousand times.

I wish I could give her the world, but I simply can't do that.

But what I can give her is all the love in the world, and that is something that I actually can do.

I love her so, I really do, and while the party was a nice occasion, it can't possibly encapsulate all the love, and respect, I have for her

So once again, happy xxth, Elena, and many, many more.

(As for tomorrow, I have to bring my car into the dealer for some major work, so I am going to skip this column, but I will be back in full force on Wednesday. Speak to you then.)
