Rant #1,776: Daydream Upheaver

I'm back.

Sorry about taking the day off from the Rants, but I had an errand to do yesterday, and it had to get done.

But anyway, here I am, and even though we have some 50-plus days left in the year 2016, I have to say that this has been the most incredible year, generally and for me personally, in turning daydreams into reality.

Three things come to mind, and maybe even a fourth, depending on your persuasion, have turned daydreams into reality this year.

1) Cubs Win the World Series: How many generations of Cubs fans ever believed that this would become reality during their lifetimes?

Not being a Cubs fan, I can't imagine what the Cubs nation has gone through for the past 108 years, but the end of that frustration came on Wednesday night, when the team from the North Side of Chicago finally brought home baseball's crown, winning the thrilling game--and series--against the Cleveland Indians.

The Cubs once again proved that nothing is impossible, to a certain extent, and how many daydreams have now been extinguished because of the Cubs' win?

If only Ernie Banks and Ron Santo were around to have seen this for themselves.

2) Monkees Have Brand New, Top 20 Album: Fifty years after the fact, the Monkees actually had a brand new, Top 20 album on Billboard's Top Albums chart, and its placement is very, very deserving.

"Good Times" is an excellent album, received nothing but good reviews, and for an act that really has been dormant as a recording entity since the 1990s--and more importantly, had its heyday 50 years ago--this is another daydream popper, because Peter, Micky, Mike and yes, Davy too, proved that lightning can strike twice.

And if you have yet to hear this album--a mix of brand new and updated tracks--do yourself a favor and get this CD--or LP if you prefer--if it is the only one that you buy this year.

Yes, it is that good.

3) People Actually Do Win Contests: On a personal note, I proved to myself and to others that yes, people actually do win contests.

As you know, I was one of the international winners of the Kia Motors "Loyalty Has Its Rewards" contest, and things happened so fast with this contest that it is hard to put it into words.

What went from an idea to a chance to a win to actually visiting Seoul, Korea, with my wife was really a whirlwind of a time, nothing short of incredible, and it is something that I will certainly never forget.

We have all daydreamed about actually winning a contest--winning the lottery, at least--and I actually proved that you can win a contest, that your entry doesn't go into some dead pile somewhere.

It can happen; yes, rainbows are real.

Well, those are my three daydream busters, but there could actually be a fourth, depending on what happens on Tuesday, Election Day.

Regardless of your political leanings, we have a President to elect, and that President could actually be a woman.

Where eight years ago we elected another daydream buster--a President of color--the American people are either going to vote for a businessman or a female politician to be our commander in chief, and if Hillary Clinton beats Donald Trump for President, I would say that her victory was another daydream buster for some people.

Who would have thought that a woman could become President?

Whether you like her or hate her--there seems to be no middle ground, and that goes for Trump too--if she wins, I bet many women's daydreams will become reality.

Whether she is the right woman to be the first one is irrelevant. Personally, as I stated several Rants ago, I am not voting for her myself, and honestly, I don't trust her a bit, but if she does get the nod, she will be a groundbreaker, whether I like it or not.

And no, I won't like it, but if she gets in, you can't argue with history.

Speak to you again on Monday. Have a nice weekend.
