Rant #1,440: The Obvious, and the Dead

The Boston Bomber and the Pope ... strange bedfellows indeed.

Kudos to the jury, which gave this miscreant exactly what he deserved, which was the death penalty.

Boo to the Pope, who gave the Palestinians just what they wanted to hear, and now is a clear supporter of terrorists with his recognition of the "Palestinian State."

Yes, I am going to tie these two things together, thus the title of this Rant.

I really didn't think that the jury would go the death penalty route with that creep who helped set off the Boston Marathon bombings a few years back.

I thought that with Massachusetts being a non-death penalty state, those on the jury would follow that mindset and give him life imprisonment.

I guess it would have been so easy to do that. Just one juror had to not agree with the others for that to happen.

But in this case, I do believe the validity of the death penalty was presented on a silver platter, and the jury went with it.

If ever there was a case that demanded the death penalty, this was it.

The bomber's lawyers admitted his guilt in the crime, and he was found guilty of causing mayhem on normally, one of the most spectacular days in Boston's calendar. People were killed, lost limbs, were maimed for life, including innocent children.

A policeman was also gunned down, and the bomber showed little or no remorse for his actions, which his lawyers blamed on his overbearing brother.

Too bad. The jury saw through it all, and found him not only guilty, but with a guilt that ultimately, will have him pay the maximum price.

It was so obvious, wasn't it?

Now, he isn't going anytime soon. There will be numerous appeals. Many of those directly impacted by his actions did not want the death penalty because their stories would have to be brought up time and time again, so there was little closure at this latest action.

So now, he has several years to stew in some hole somewhere, but he will get his comeuppence one day.

As for the Pope, as far as I am concerned, he can probably stew in the same hole if he wants to.

It was quite obvious that this Pope was going to side with the terrorists when it came to their statehood, but this Pope amplified that by naming two Palestinians as saints over the weekend, kind of rubbing the mud into those who believe in democracy and freedom.

But again, it was so obvious what was going to happen.

Prior popes recognized the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Yassar Arafat's mission. They were as big a terrorist organization at one time as Hamas is today.

So does anybody really think that the Vatican was going to recognize Israel's right to be the Jewish State?

The Vatican has never recognized Israel in all of its history.

And the Jews' plight, and how to handle it, has always been a major controversy within the Catholic Church. During World War II, the church pretty much abandoned the Jews to the Nazis, and up until 50 years ago, church teachings were that the Jews killed Jesus.

So did anyone think that the Pope wouldn't go the way he did?

The only good thing to come out of this is that the Israelis now know where they stand with the Vatican. The Vatican is another enemy of the Jewish people both in the Middle East and around the world.

Sorry, I don't want to know how wonderful this Pope is. To me, he recognizes the terrorists, he is one of them.

But the other good thing is that Catholics aren't necessarily always agreeable to what the Vatican says is right.

On matters such as abortion, gay rights, and other things, Catholics basically go their own way, using Vatican principles as a basis for their own beliefs, but not buying into them entirely.

I feel confident that Catholics will study what has happened, and will probably go their own way on this too.

Many Catholics have spoken about their undying love for Israel and its people, and just because this misguided Pope recognizes terrorists doesn't mean that his flock will necessarily follow him.

And that is a good thing.

  1. The Holy Father recognized Israel in the 1990's, the Holy See has had an embassy in Israel since at least 1996. You lose all credibility when you base your opinion on misinformation. Or are you one of those bigots who think that the Pope cannot recognize all people?

  2. The current Pope recognized the supposed Palestinian State and thus, recognized Hamas. That is enough for me to know that this Pope, and the Vatican, are supporting terrorist organizations. Having an embassy in Israel means little; several of the countries we feud with regularly have embassies in New York City. I am not a bigot, but I find the Pope's behavior baffling. And the fact that the Vatican has never, ever recognized the Jewish State is just as baffling. Please answer to that before you erroneously call me a bigot.
