Rant #1,435: Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there, the potential mothers, and those with mothers.

That means all of us, but, of course, I am directing this post at the ladies.

Mother's Day celebrates everything that is holy about motherhood, and yes, motherhood is really something special.

To be able to bring another human being into this world, and to raise it to the best of your ability, is truly something precious.

I want to wish my wife and my mother and my sister all a happy Mother's Day.

I want to wish all the other mothers a good holiday too.

Parenthood is something that I think we take for granted.

If you can produce a seed or conceive, you are automatically a parent.

I don't personally believe that that is true.

Yes, you have the capacity to be a biological parent, but you are not a real parent yet until that child actually comes into this world.

Then you rear it, you take watch over it, you feel for it, you love it.

That is what a parent is, and it goes well beyond being able to simply have a child.

Yes, some people who have this capacity never really become parents, for one reason or another.

But the three women I mentioned earlier--my wife, my mother, and my sister--yes, they are all true parents, real moms.

They have all been through the trials and tribulations and the triumphs of their children, but they manage to keep a steady course no matter what.

I think all three would say that with their other achievements, perhaps their greatest achievement is motherhood, raising their children and allowing them to grow in this world that we live in.

So, here is a happy Mother's Day to them, and to all of you.

There is something about motherhood that is precious, and actually, in my mind, every day should be Mother's Day, not just this Sunday.

Have a good day and I will speak to you again on Monday.
