Rant #2,440: Hats Off To Larry

Larry is a good boy.

However, whatever Larry does seems to turn out poorly.

Larry has no idea why this black cloud is over him, but it is, and like the coronavirus, it shows no signs of going away.

Larry went to two banks yesterday, one bank to take some money out and the other bank to put some money in.

Larry went to the first bank, bot out of his car, put his face mask on, and entered the bank to take money out of the ATM machine.

As Larry was doing this, he saw a woman in her own face mask waiting outside the door.

Larry waved in the woman, as he was almost done doing what he needed to do, and there was also ample room in this part of the bank for her to wait for him to finish.

Larry waved, but the woman refused to enter.

Larry finished his transaction, and went to the door, and held it for the woman to enter, as any gentleman would do.

Larry found that the woman refused to enter, even as he held the door.

As the door was closing, the woman entered, and Larry said to the woman, "Aren't we letting the paranoia get to us a bit?"

That was Larry's mistake.

The woman elicited a tirade of F-bombs against Larry that he had not heard from a woman before, one after the other as if her mouth was a jackhammer.

Larry tried to speak, but the F-bombs drowned him out.

Larry left, but he quickly returned, which was a mistake.

Larry tried to reason with the woman, told her that that was not the way a woman should speak, but the woman would not listen to him, and the F-bombs kept cascading out of her mouth.

Larry was also told by the woman that she was calling the police on him, which Larry could not believe.

Larry quickly left, shaking his head and knowing that he should not have gone back there to confront this deranged woman.

Larry got in his car and drove off, did what he had to do at the other bank, and came home.

Later in the day, Larry was looking at his email messages, as he always does throughout the day, with particular interest on the job emails, which are full of so many jobs that Larry has applied for that his fingers are raw to the bone as a result.

Larry went through the emails, found nothing at this point in time, and decided to go onto Faecebook, which might have been a slight mistake on his part.

The first thing he saw there was an entry by a woman who replied to a post Larry answered about the lawlessness and anarchy now taking place in Manhattan related to the protests and the presence of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The woman basically defended BLM and in several different posts, called Larry a racist for not supporting them and their cause.

Larry blocked her, but first put up his own message for her to read, stating that if he was a racist, then "it takes one to know one."

Larry hopes that the woman saw that post before he blocked her. And by the way, Larry checked, and she is from Chicago, which before Manhattan became anarchy-land, was the murder capital of the country.

Larry moved on from this person to a post in his news feed, alerting him that the Long Island Ducks had suspended their 2020 season because they could not convince Governor Cuomo that they needed to operate with at least some fans in the stands, which goes against the governor's edict that professional sports teams can operate in the state, but without fans.

Larry applied to the Ducks for a part-time seasonal job back in February, when we started to recognize the pandemic, and was told on March 18 that he was hired and that he should await word on when the season would start and his time as an employee would begin.

Larry had not heard a word from the organization since then, and about two weeks ago, when hope arose that the Ducks would play their season, Larry wrote to the Ducks to ask them what the deal was with their new hires, directed by the original March 18 email to do so and to contact them directly.

Now that the Ducks have canceled their season, Larry wrote to the Ducks again, asking that if the 2020 season is canceled, would those hired for this "season to never be" would get first dibs on employment for the presumptive 2021 season.

Larry thought it was a legitimate question, because in nearly nine months of looking for a new job, the only organization to give Larry the chance of employment were the Ducks, and since nothing has come since, Larry just wanted to know where he stood with them.

Larry soon received an email back from the person that the March 18 email told him to contact with any questions he had, and she told him that since I was hired by the foodservice firm handling the team's food and beverage business, and not the Ducks per se, I would have to contact the foodservice company directly.

Although it was inferred at the original job interview that the main need the Ducks had for new employees was in the foodservice area, it was never implied that that area was where Larry was going to work, in particular when the team advertised that it needed ticket takers, grounds crew people and others filling jobs that had nothing to do with food and beverages.

And again, the original March 18 email stated very clearly to contact this person at the Ducks directly with any questions new employees might have, so Larry was again in a situation where he had to shake his head/

Larry contacted the foodservice company with his query, but the company has yet to get back to him in any way as of 6:48 a.m. this morning.

Larry is a good boy.

Larry tries hard to make things work.

Larry constantly runs into brick walls that make no sense to him.

Larry is tired.

But hat's off to Larry.

Larry tries to make sense out of situations that make no sense.

Larry does the right thing and it always becomes the wrong thing.

Larry has had it, but give him so kudoes for trying.

Larry is done.
