Rant #2,421: Someday We'll Be Together
Several weeks ago, when my son was still working and not on furlough due to the coronavirus pandemic, I drove him to work, and decided to fill up my tank with gas.
I stopped at the cheapest place I could find on the way back, and proceeded to fill up.
A car pulled into the gas station on my right, and parked in a corner of the station, probably 100 feet away for me or so.
A man gets out of the car, and yells at me, "Hey, do you have some money for gas that I could use? My daughter is in the car, and I need to fill up."
I yelled back, "No, I don't," and proceeded to fill up my car.
Upon my response, he yelled out the following: "You are a racist! You are a racist! You are a racist!" and he must have done this a dozen times at the top of his lungs.
He only stopped when he got back in his car and shot out of that station as if his car was a missile, not an automobile.
The man was black. I am white. The gas station is in a seedier part of a mainly black neighborhood.
Was I scared when he taunted me? You bet I was.
And all because I refused to give him some money, supposedly for gas, but probably for other things.
And could you imagine if this happened today? I don't want to think about what would have happened to me.
That is what is happening today with these protests, which have targeted white people--mainly males--and police officers as the enemy.
Whether these supposedly peaceful assemblages of almost all younger citizens--35 years of age and under, from what I can see via news footage, even though we are told by the press that the marchers are made up of all age levels--are peaceful or not, they have evolved--or should I say devolved--into nothing more than mobs.
Even the supposedly peaceful ones are attacking, with their mouths and placards, white males and police, lumping them all into one wretched basket, simply because of the actions of one rogue cop and his cohorts, all bad eggs, acknowledged by everyone as people who are guilty of taking away the life of a low-life thug, who didn't deserve the treatment he received from them.
I know white males and police are being targeted because of the venom coming out of the mouths of these petulant brats, egged on by a press corps that generally wants to make these babies into freedom riders of our generation.
When you have people holding placards stating in bold letters "Black Lives Matter," you just know that there are nefarious forces behind these marches, and yes, even the peaceful ones.
"Black Live Matter" is an anti-white, anti-Semitic, anarchic organization that is funded by outside-the-country forces that exist to tear down our democracy. And when, in particular, I see white men and women holding up placards with these three words on it ... well, they might as well be holding up "Heil Hitler!" signs.
Are they displaying those words with any understanding of what they actually represent?
I doubt it.
These marches are protected under our national laws, and if the marches were doing anything positive at this point, it is not clear to me.
They have had their time in the spotlight, and now it is time to go home. You have made your points, some of them are well taken, and now it is time to see what the aftermath will be.
But the continued protesting--yes, the supposedly peaceful protesting--is being used as a camouflage for the rioting faction of these mobs, people so bent on destruction that they don't care who they pillage and plunder, even if it is people of their own race and people doing business in their own communities.
The press and legislators claim that it is outside forces who are doing the destruction, but I think it is readily evident, as these protests turn into mobs, that there is an element even of the supposedly peaceful protestors that have joined in on the fun.
If it was just outsiders, the destruction would not have lasted night after night after night. But don't tell me that it is only outsiders ... sure, the initial rabble rousers were probably those whose sole ability in life is to plunder and destroy. But on the other hand, don't tell me that with the pickins so easy, others haven't joined these people in their pursuit of destruction.
And another reason I know this is that there is a rising tide on social media to back these felons. I have read "explanations" from a number of people justifying the looting, and these justifications are coming from both white and black people.
They claim that if peaceful protests don't do what they are intended to do, then these acts of violence are justified.
What they do not understand is that if it begins with retailers, how soon does it get into neighborhood residences? How soon do we have to sit at our windows, with anything we can muster up, to prevent looters from coming into our own homes?
Even the peaceful protests must stop, and stop right now.
I am not a lawyer, but there has to be some laws on the books about illegal and/or unlawful assemblages, and whatever laws there are, they must be used and enforced.
Citizens must retake their streets, their businesses and their communities, and these protests, or should I say mobs, should be done and over with, not escalating like they are.
Enough is enough.
