Rant #1,417: ... and Cruising and Losing
After a nice dinner, my son and I walked back to Madison Square Garden, working off whatever food we had eaten.
We got to the Garden early, hung around a bit, and finally, they opened the doors and we went to our seats ... all the way up, of course.
When we got to our seats, we were dismayed to find that although the angle to see the floor was a good one, the Garden's new Chase seats--an idiotic extension over the floor that probably adds about 100 seats to the capacity but thwarts thousands of ticket buyers in the upper regions of the arena because it is simply in the way--was blocking our way to see the big Garden screen.
It also put us in something of a catty corner, and while there was a TV screen about 10 feet in front of us, all public address announcements were muffled.
We felt we were at the Garden, but not really there.
On the floor, the Knicks did what they do best, which is lose, and they dropped yet another one, 99-91 versus the Milwaukee Bucks.
When the game ended, we scurried to the Long Island Railroad, just missed our train, made the next one, and we were home before midnight.
All in all, it was a good day, a good bonding experience between my son an I.
But again, the Garden should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of those sitting in the upper tier.
For the financial benefit of a few seats, they have sacrificed the viewing pleasure of thousands at each event held there.
That is real bad public relations, and further separates those who attend between the haves and have nots.
But I doubt they care.
It is called greed.
