Rant #1,411: Happy Easter, Happy Passover

With all the nonsense that I have been through this week on Facebook--and that is what it has been, nonsense, nothing more--there are times of the year that ground you, tell you what is really important, and this is one of those times.

Starting today, and really starting tonight, we have the convergence of two of the most important dates on the calendar, Good Friday, and later tonight, the first night of Passover, leading into perhaps the most important date on the calendar for many of us, Easter Sunday.

I am not going to get into the religious angle of these holidays, which is filled with tradition and which really is stupendous and awe inspiring.

But I will tell you what these holidays mean to me: they mean family.

These aren't holidays to be festooned with gifts; the only gifts desired on these holidays is to be with family.

These are holidays to honor the traditions, to break bread (or matzoh), to learn what is going on with your family, and to honor your respective holiday by celebrating the family unit.

The family unit appears to be changing as we go into these holidays. Much more is accepted today than in the past.

Whatever will be will be. No matter who constitutes your family, these are the people you most care about, and that is what is so cherished during these holidays.

So take a minute, exhale, forget about whatever is troubling you, and enjoy these holidays.

There is nothing more important than the family, and these holidays pretty much exemplify that.

Have a great holiday, whichever one you celebrate, and speak to you again on Monday.
