Rant #2,677: (You Little) Trustmaker

Even though our elected officials and "experts" on the coronavirus disease have told us that we can open up everything without fear of reprisal from the scourge, I don’t think the majority of people are buying this affirmation hook, line and sinker, or at least not just yet.

When I go out to shop, like I do today with my food shopping, about two-thirds of the people I see in the store still have their masks on, even though you don’t need them where we are doing our shopping today.

And there are still other stores and venues where you are asked to keep the mask on, too. One very prominent supermarket chain is insisting that all of its shoppers, and all of its employees, keep the masks on, but honestly, I did see one worker out front the other day without a mask.

In my wife’s bank, they also ask that patrons keep the masks on, as all employees are asked to do, but she has told me that most people coming into the bank are mask-less.

At my son’s place of business, he has told us that most people are wearing their masks, and he is as an employee, too.

So you have this quandary—to mask or not to mask—and probably the percentage of people still masking is akin to the percentage of protection you are afforded by the Johnson & Johnson inoculation, about 67 percent to 71 percent.

Funny how things match up so well.

The virus is still out there. Whether you believe in its power or not—and I am pretty skeptical about everything having to do with this virus, as you know—we have been alerted about a variant that first showed up in India that is different and supposedly more powerful than previous variants, and it is coming to our shores.

Then why are we opening everything at such an enormous pace? Why are we celebrating with parades and fireworks displays?

As usual, it is both politics and money that are forcing the issue.

Politics, as it makes the Biden Administration look even better, as the leaders that stamped out the virus.

Money, because the ultra-lucrative summer season is at our doorstep, and we lost our summer last year, we simply cannot do it this year.

Well, what happens if the opening of everything up so rapidly leads to the rates going up again? What happens if we think we are out of the woods with this virus, but we really aren’t?

Are our leaders and our supposed experts going to tell us to put on the masks again and do nothing like we did last year?

The Pandora’s Box is open, and you can’t simply stuff things back into it just like that …

Unless a lot of this was pre-planned, and those in charge are part of a planned, orchestrated program that has ruined lives.

Don’t bet against it, because there are plenty of people who have done pretty well during even the worst days of the pandemic.

Heck, we have a governor who made millions of dollars when he wrote a book about how he handled the pandemic in his state.

I have, from day one, thought that there was something very fishy about this pandemic.

With all the variants we have had to deal with, why couldn’t the coronavirus simply be, itself, a variant—and very toxic variant—of the common flu bug that we battle every year?

And you know that there are people who took advantage of the situation, basically bathing in the mere mention of the virus for their own benefit.

But that being said, everything is opening up now—the Yankees plan on having a full house in Yankee Stadium on Friday evening, meaning 50,000 people will be in the stands—and we are all acting like it is July 4 and Christmas Day all rolled into one big blast.

It just seem so odd that this is all happening just a few days before the summer season actually begins, and don’t get me started on the shots and how we have been force-fed misconceptions about those, too,  which I talked about extensively in yesterday’s Rant.

Coincidence, perhaps.

Coercion, most probably.

Maybe in 10 years, maybe in 20 years, maybe when many of us are dead and buried of other causes, will be the time that we will find out the real reason that this pandemic existed, and who pushed it to be as virulent--and vibrant--as it has been for so many people.

Maybe years from now, we will find out that we jumped the gun on reopening so quickly, and that we did it for the reasons I stated, and many more that we don't even realize.

Look, I hope that everything goes fine and dandy, and that any fears that anyone has—including the doubts that I have—are completely unfounded.

But when I watch both the local and national news, and the newscasters themselves even admit that there are conflicting reports about the current state of the pandemic—with one side of their mouths telling us that we are opening up and the other side telling us that there is a new variant from India that is more virulent than the other variants we have experienced—I simply feel that the double talk must be noted.

Believe in yourself, believe in what you have done to ward off this scourge … but don’t believe any legislators or experts on anything they say about this virus, because when one speaks out of both sides of their mouths, what comes out is garbled …

And makes absolutely no sense, just like the “end” of the pandemic makes no sense at all.

Game over!?!?

TILT!
