Rant #1,841: My Funny Valentine

Tomorrow is Valentines Day, and millions will be spent on that day to partake in the annual ritual of celebrating your loved one.

People will buy cards, flowers, jewelry, and many other things to do this, and like I have said many times, it is a day that you cannot forget, or you will hear about it for another year.

But since Valentines Day this year falls on a Tuesday--right in the middle of the work week--my wife and I decided to honor the holiday a wee bit early this year, on this past Saturday.

We went out to eat--with our son--at a really nice, local fish restaurant. It was expensive as all heck, but like we agreed, we weren't buying gifts for each other this year, so this was my gift to her, and to my son.

I wonder how many other people celebrated the day this weekend, rather than on the day that it actually falls on?

We have cards for each other on the actual day, but that is it.

My son has a little gift for his mother, but other than that, we did our celebrating on Saturday.

I guess you can say that we beat the rush.

I have nothing bad to say against the holiday. It is a nice day to put the spotlight on something that you are supposed to do every day of the year, which is to honor your loved ones, whether it be your spouse, your children, or others.

We also have a card for my parents, who deserve way more than a card for the love that they give us each year.

And I could say the same thing for my wife. Being married to me, well, she deserves not just a card, and a nice evening out, but a medal for her efforts.

And a big kiss, too, which I gave her after we ate.

My son is a good kid, and he is still finding his way in his life.

I guess you can say that he is the light of our lives, but sometimes, that light doesn't shine too brightly.

But he is trying to put that light on bright each and every day, and we know that he will succeed some day.

My daughter is also the light of my life, but I haven't seen her or heard from her in months. That is the way that she likes it, so I honor her request.

I do miss her though. I am hoping that maybe on Valentines Day, she will call me, if for nothing else so I can hear her voice.

So that really sums up Valentines Day for myself and my family.

We basically did it early this year, it worked out just fine, and tomorrow, we will exchange cards, exchange kisses, and quite frankly, we will be too pooped to do anything else since it is a workday.

And again, a word of warning: guys, do not forget this holiday, do not forget to get your loved one at least a card for the day.

If you do, you are in for it!

And when I say "you are in for it," it won't be anything good.

Enjoy the day! And give your loved one a kiss for me!
