Rant #1,840: Slip Slidin' Away

Yes, it did snow yesterday, didn't it?

We must have gotten about 10 inches or so.

Bad, but not that bad. We live on the border of Nassau and Suffolk counties here on Long Island, and Suffolk really got hit hard. Some localities got upwards of 16 inches of the white stuff, so what we got wasn't nearly that bad.

But it was bad enough, bad enough that for the first time in at least a decade, my place of work actually called its employees to tell them not to come to work, and that we were closed.

There is a God in heaven, I guess, but I wasn't coming in anyway; about 10 minutes before that call, I actually made my own call, telling them I wouldn't be there.

Anyway, my wife and I did shovel and dig out our cars from the snow, but we did it in the middle of the afternoon, and it was still snowing, still gusting, and still very windy, so I don't think we did a good job at all.

And the walks around the house? We gave it a gallant try, but again, I don't think we were able to do a very good job.

So after I type all of this, I will venture outside, and do some damage control, see where I can do a better job.

My car is on in the driveway--I do have remote start, which I hardly ever use. It was a gift I received from Kia for winning that Korea contest last year.

Maybe it will burn off some of the snow from the car, making my job a wee bit easier.

Anyway, what did I do yesterday?

I decided to take advantage of the day as much as I possibly could.

I digitized several albums that I have--including this Lulu collection--and I also watched several movies, old movies from the 1940s and 1950s, old, and really bad movies.

I have had a penchant for bad movies for years. I just love to see a bad movie unfold--not one that is bad on purpose, as much of these types of movies are in more recent decades.

But my pleasure is seeing a movie that is trying to be good from this era, but is so bad that well, it is good.

And I just love films that push the envelope of their times, with lots of innuendo rather than showing everything.

I am talking about films like "Cat Women of the Moon," "Test Tube Babies," "Jail Bait,""Girl Gang," and the Lenny Bruce un-classic "Dance Hall Racket."

Come to think of it, some of these films were probably made to be bad, too, but I like to think their intentions were honorable.

And the good thing about these films is that they are short, some little more than an hour or so.

The even better thing is that just about all of them are available on YouTube, so you don't have to spend a penny to see these films.

So that is what I did yesterday on my day home from work.

I don't have many of these types of days during the year, so why not take advantage, even if the snow ended up taking advantage of me?

Have a good weekend. Speak to you again on Monday.
