Rant #1,677: Just Another Day On the Calendar

Hello, it's me.

Today is Friday.

I would say "Thank God!" but we still have a day of work ahead of us, so I can't say that yet until I step out of the door of my workplace at 5:30 p.m. tonight, and begin my weekend.

That is a long time from now.

There are certain days that I really don't have anything in mind to write about, and today is one of those days.

I searched around, did some research, and today is one of those days on the calendar where I really couldn't find anything specifically to write about.

Today is actor Jimmy Stewart's birthday. If he were alive, he would be 108 today.

He was an extremely popular actor in his career, which stretched from the 1930s to the 1980s or so.

He was in "It's a Wonderful Life" and numerous other films, some classic, some not.

He also starred in a TV series, "The Jimmy Stewart Show," which didn't last very long.

He was also humble, or at least gave the impression of being humble. In these days of actors using social media to be out there on everything, I doubt a guy like this could survive in Hollywood today.

He was a product of a different time, for sure.

Looking at history, in 1983, today marks the first published evidence of the discovery of the HIV virus that causes AIDS. This information was published in the journal "Science" by Luc Montagnier.

It is also a very sullen day, as on this day in 1940, the first prisoners arrived at Auschwitz, Germany, signifying the beginning of the Holocaust.

I won't put up photos of either one, out of respect for people who have suffered because of these dreadful things.

May 20 is normally the 140th day of the year, but this year, because of Leap Year, it is the 141st day.

I am sure I know somebody who was born on this day, but I can't think of anyone.

I am sure it will come to me later in the day, or certainly when I go onto Facebook, and I am reminded that "so-and-so" is having a birthday today.

Me, I have been 59 for 22 days and so far, not much has gone my way, but I am hoping that that changes real soon.

What is happening with you guys on this May 20? Anything interesting?

There must be something happening that I can really sink my teeth into.

But today, as is the situation on most Fridays for me, I am working for the weekend.

Nothing else matters.

So if I can just get through today, I will be fine for a busy weekend.

I would rather be busy on the weekend than busy at work anytime.

Let me get there.

Yes, it is truly "A Wonderful Life," but at least in my case, you have to get there first.

Speak to you on Monday. Have a nice weekend.
