Rant 1,667: Happy Mother's Day ... and Enough Already

Today's Rant is going to be in two parts, but they are all linked to the same theme: a celebration of women, and a celebration of mothers, because without our mothers, we certainly wouldn't be here (and our fathers, too, but that can wait until June).

Sunday is Mother's Day, which some people think is the holiest day of the year, and in some respects, it probably is.

Our mothers gave birth to us, and gave birth to our own children. They deserve their own day, where we celebrate them for being what amounts to the first caregivers we ever had, and the first caregivers our children had.

Yes, men helped create us and our kids, but it was the women who nurtured them from the get go.

And once we were all out in the world, our mothers were probably our single most important influence. Yes, dads influenced their kids, too, but moms seemed to be even more aligned with that part of our growing up.

So on Sunday, we are going to be doing something that we should be doing every day, celebrating motherhood.

I will be celebrating the day with three of the best moms I know: my wife, my mother, and my sister.

I salute all of them, and all the moms out there.

It is a great day, and I hope that you and yours have a wonderful celebration.

That leads into part two of this Rant ...

The problem is that there have been attacks on womanhood in our current environment, and what exactly constitutes a woman.

Yes, there are unfortunate souls who are born in the wrong skin, and yes, there are procedures to correct this.

And there are also people who want to exploit this, who feel it is their duty to ram down our throats the severe mental illness that they have, and try to make it seem as if they are "normal."

No, I am not talking about all transgender people here, I am talking about those that look to exploit this unfortunate malady for their own personal gain.

I am talking about Bruce ... er, Kaitlyn Jenner, who as much as he/she might try, is not representative of this community, and is making this community into nothing more than a sideshow attraction by his/her behavior.

The latest nonsense to come out about Jenner is that he/she will be gracing the cover of a future Sports Illustrated magazine, an issue honoring our Olympics team.

He/she will be on the cover nude, draped only in the American flag and his/her gold medals.

I thought that this originally was an Internet hoax, much like the one going around about Charles Manson choosing Donald Trump as the man he wants to be president. That nonsense is as phony as a $3 bill, and well, I was hoping that this Jenner nonsense was phony too, but the sad thing is that it isn't.

The thing that is most troublesome about the latest Jenner nonsense is that the media buys into this lock, stock and barrel, and basically follows every move of this unfortunate individual as they do the Kardhashians, who, of course, he is directly related to.

Jenner has a severe mental problem--which again, I don't think most transgender people have--and he has become sort of a representative of this community, and I think he and the media are misrepresenting what he stands for, and I am sick and tired of this getting rammed down my throat.

Is he a man or is he a woman? He claims to be a female, but he is only changed on the top, so to speak. His bottom part is that of a man, and he says very proudly that he remains attracted to women.

First of all, really, this is no one's business, and only becomes someone else's business because he wants it to be that way.

And no, he is not the new normal, even though he claims to be.

His behavior toward his transformation, and certainly not his transformation itself, is what is annoying a lot of people.

You feel the need to do this, fine, do it if it makes you feel good. But don't exploit it to the point that you are beating us over the head about it.

But the media is also culpable. Earlier, he was named Glamor Magazine's "Woman of the Year," and you can bet that millions of women were offended by this, and I was too--as a male.

And for Sports Illustrated to feed into this person's severe mental illness by further allowing him to exploit himself/herself ... I just don't get it.

And please don't tell me that times are changing ... that is one of the all-time PC copouts, so if you lay that down, you are going to wish you hadn't, because being "with it" and "now" has nothing to do with this.

Nothing is sacred anymore, there are no values that we cherish anymore, and well, it seems that anything goes in our society today.

But it really shouldn't be that way, and Sunday will demonstrate to all that there are still standards, and there is still some normalcy in the world as we celebrate not only motherhood, but womanhood, too.

Real womanhood, not mental illness-driven womanhood, which we are being led to believe is normal.

Please. It is time for this PC nonsense to stop, because as a country, we are choking ourselves into submission over such imbecility.

Happy Mother's Day to my female readers and to all moms out there, I hope you all have a great day.

Have a great weekend, and I will speak to you again on Monday.

  1. Some days, when you write something offensive, I ignore you. Today is not one of those days.

I'm not crazy about Caitlyn Jenner, because she, like the rest of the Jenner/Kardashian clan, is an exhibitionist, a publicity hound, a person who seeks out the attention of the media and the crowd. They have been very successful at it. They earned quite a bit of money creating this public spectacle. And the lowest denominator of our society loves it.

If that were all you said ...but no, you took stabs at Caitlyn's gender identity, labeled her mentally ill, took swipes at her regarding which surgeries she did or did not have. That's a nasty streak of bigotry running through the piece.

  2. Not really. I also said that she/he is not typical of the entire transgender community, who I feel come to terms with what they have and do what they feel they have to do to make themselves feel whole. Jenner has a right to do this to; but he has made the entire transgender community the sideshow that it doesn't want to be with his actions.

And it would all be his own business, except that he has decided to make a public spectacle of himself. And the media buys into this like they were being fed honey.

It is atrocious the way he is acting, and it is even more atrocious the way the media seeks to legitimize him.

There is no bigotry here at all. He has some type of severe mental problem that he has been grappling with for decades. He has said it himself, that he has wanted to be female since he was a child. Is he female now?

My point is nobody would care if this fool didn't make such a spectacle of himself. And yes, people are fed up with all of this PC nonsense, and I know that I certainly am.

  3. Larry, your bigotry shows the moment you refer to Jenner as "he".

She is an exhibitionist, just like the rest of that family. Fame as an athlete has faded, so now she does what the rest of the Jenners and Kardashians do -- become famous for being famous.

but you've been very, very clear about your feelings on LGBTQ issues. And sorry, but that ship has sailed. There's no going back.

  4. A he has male genitals.

    Jenner has male genitals.

    Therefore, Jenner is a he.

I think I have been quite fair in my assessment of this issue.

He has made himself into a sideshow attraction, and dragged other transgender people with him.

Jenner is to be pitied, not revered.

And you can always go back to the way it should be, there is always a way to say "we made a mistake" and go back to a time when values were revered, not freaks like Jenner has made himself into.

There is no justification for him or his actions at all, and I cannot stand this liberal pablum that we have to bend over backwards to appreciate this person.

I appreciate Jenner's accomplishments as an athlete. I do not appreciate his accomplishments as this person he is today.

And my feelings are very clear at the LGBT community.

I welcome them into the greater community of people, as they should be welcome.

But don't hit me over the head with the way you are. People are fed up with it, and I certainly am, too.
