Rant #1,666: Happy May 5

Happy May 5, the 126th day of 2016.

Normally, it is the 125th day, but that dreaded Leap Year Day added an extra day onto the calendar this year.

To some, today means only one thing--Cinco De Mayo.

I think the true meaning of Cinco De Mayo has been lost on most people.

For most of us, today is the day to drink.

Any excuse to drink is a valid one, I guess, and to those people, bottoms up!

Me, I drink milk, water and soda, and that is pretty much it, so I guess I don't qualify.

Otherwise, May 5 doesn't mean that much to me, and as it is, it is just another day on the calendar.

Off the top of my head, I can't remember anything memorable that happened in my life on May 5.

It is just another day.

A notable birth today is that of Tammy Wynette, who turns 74 on this day.

Since I am not a country music fan, I am not getting nuts about her birthday, but yes, she was born today.

She had that song "Stand By Your Man," and another one I know, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E."

Let's just say I know the latter one all too well, or at least knew it well when I was going through mine so many years ago.

Secretariat won the Kentucky Derby today, back in 1973.

I am not much of a racing fan, but I do know that that horse is thought to be the benchmark against which all other race horses are compared.

But again, I don't bet on the horses, so I will take others' words for it.

No, at least to me, this is not the most exciting day on the calendar.

It is just another day, another day of work, another day of toil, another day of the stress that makes life what it is.

But it is another day, so they say that if you wake up, it is automatically a good day, so I have to look at it like that.

The world is my oyster.

The world is my mere bag of shells.

Here I come, walking down the street, and I cannot be stopped.

This will be a good day, and I will make it a good day.

May 5 will be a memorable day for me, because I will surprise the world with--

Not much, just work, come home, eat and go to sleep.

Happy May 5 to you, and I hope that you, too, have a great day.

I know that I will make it into one, no matter what!
