Rant #1,624: ... Here's To the Next 60!

As I told you on Friday, we finally had my parents' 60th anniversary party the next day, and it was a fun time for all of us.

A fun time for my parents, because 60 years of married bliss is a real accomplishment, and it gave them time to look back, and look forward to the next 60 years.

For everyone there, because, as my sister so eloquently said, we could have filled up many rooms with people who would have liked to celebrate with them, but the people who were actually there were all of my parents' closest friends and relatives, and the event gave us all a chance to celebrate with them.

The food was good, the atmosphere was good, and the date was good, after a horrific snowstorm postponed this thing from when it was originally planned.

There was lots of patter about the past 60 years, how my parents met, how the world has changed during those six decades, and how that the constant has been that my parents were together for everything, both good and bad and also somewhere in between.

But the one other constant was that my parents were always there for all of us, whether it was for children, grandchildren, relatives or friends.

They have always been there, and that is why we could have filled many rooms with people who my parents have touched over the years.

Personally, it gave me a time to say "thank you" to them for everything they have done for me, from birth to now.

It also gave me a chance to see my relatives, some of whom I have not seen in years.

It was fun to reminisce with them, and to find out where they were in the current time and place.

I have to give full kudos to my sister, who really was the one who put this whole thing together. She did a marvelous job as the MC for the event, and was the cheerleader for this thing from the get go.

I was there, of course, but if my parents were the stars of the show, my sister was the very gracious host of the event.

She got people singing, dancing and laughing about those 60 years.

My wife and I will be celebrating our 23rd anniversary on June 6, so we have a long way to go to get to 60, but it definitely gives us something to shoot for, that's for sure.

It is doable, it is possible, and I have to say, if my parents can do it, why can't we?

Whatever the case, it was a great day on Saturday, and I tried to convey what happened there in this Rant and the last one, and I hope you have enjoyed both.

Here's to the next 60!

And don't bet against it.
