Rant #1,483: A Wedding

This past Saturday, my family and I attended a wedding, something we don't often do.

But this one was a special one, as my wife's brother finally got hitched.

My wife and I have been married more than 22 years, and one of her brothers has been married about 30 years.

This left her other brother, who finally tied the knot.

He finally joined the fraternity of married men.

On Saturday, he and his bride had their wedding on the beach at Smith Point Park on Long Island.

It is not a private beach, so the ceremony was actually held amid thousands of people who came there to swim that day.

After all, it was about 90 degrees, and the beach is a place where you can cool off and have fun.

So in the middle of all of this, a wedding was held.

It originally was going to be on the beach, but there was high tide, so it had to be moved off the beach, to an extent, quite a bit away from the water, but it was still on the beach, per se.

The wedding took place, pictures were taken--my wife and son looked terrific, I must say--and we all moved back to my brother-in-law and his new bride's house, where the party took place.

Their house has a good sized backyard, so they fit in as many tables and chairs as they could, and everyone who attended--probably between 50 and 75 people or so--were packed in.

There was the requisite food, music, dancing, the works.

The best thing was that my father in law could attend.

He has been in the hospital with a broken hip, and I think that this was his first time outside, in the fresh air, in about two months.

So he was there to see his third, and final, child be married.

My mother-in-law is deceased, but I am sure she was there in spirit.

The one negative happened to me.

As I was biting down on a piece of food, I think I either broke a tooth or lost a cap.

I am pretty uncomfortable now, and I am finding it hard to chew my food. I will call the dentist today, and perhaps they can see me and get this thing fixed.

I would personally rather not have that memory of this wedding, which was quite a nice one.

Good luck to the new couple, and I am sure they will spend the rest of their lives together.

Even in today's day and age, marriage between a man and a woman is the ultimate ideal, the ultimate act of love.

I wish the two of them the best.

Now let me attend to my teeth ...

but I'm confused. did they get married on the beach or didn't they?

Did they want o get married by the waterline, but move further up the beach because it was high tide? Or did they not get married on the beach per se, but rather, on the boardwalk?

  2. They were married sort of in between the beach and the boardwalk. We had to get through a small patch of sand to get to a somewhat solid piece of pavement, so it was literally in between the full beach and the boardwalk, closer to the boardwalk than the beach, but close enough to the beach so that yes, they can say they got married on the beach, but not very close to the water.
