Rant #2,527: I've Had Enough

What a week we have experienced!

First, we had James Bond’s passing … or should I say Sean Connery’s passing, but let’s be honest about it, Connery WAS Bond, Bond WAS Connery, so really, they were one and the same.

Then we had Election Day, and what should have been a glorious day was far from it, because this year, the day was devalued by early voting and in particular, mail-in voting, and I don’t believe we will ever get the count right.

And then we had the aftermath, where the president was claiming “fake votes” and “late votes” were upending his bid to have a second term in office, and while I do believe that he is somewhat correct in his assertions, if “fake” means “haphazard” and “subterfuge” ” more then “phony,” but no, I don’t think he is going to win this one.

The amazing thing about the whole deal is that as of 6:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, we still do not have a winner in this mess of a presidential run, so the president actually has an outside chance to win this thing, but he probably won’t, either by electoral votes or in the courts.

As I have said time and time again, this type of situation can never, ever happen again, and during the next four years, we must make sure that the proper checks and balances are put in place to ensure that it never does.

You can’t have people sending in mail-in ballots and having them good in one state on a particular date and good in another state on a particular date.

It makes no sense, nor does the fact that people used mail-inn ballots out of convenience, not out of necessity.

That is not the reason for mail-inn ballots to exist, and as I have said countless times, if you could shop at Target and Kohl’s and wherever during the pandemic, you could actually go to the polls to vote, and not used the reason of the coronavirus for casting a mail-in ballot.

Laziness does not equal necessity, and there are people, like the infirm and many seniors, who need to vote this way.

Others have no reason to send in their ballots like this.

Hopefully we will figure this out during the next four years …

Hopefully.

Let’s see how this plays out.

But personally, my world won’t turn any differently whether we have a new administration or not.

I will still put my pants on the same way I have done my entire life.

I will still like the same foods, the same sports, the same teams.

I will still be married to the greatest lady in the world, and have two great children.

And my 89-year-old mom, who had the audacity to go to the polling place on Election Day to cast her vote, will still be there for me, and when she calls out “Lawrence,” I know that I am still in trouble with her for whatever reason.

Sure, the bigger picture will change for myself, my family and for all of us, but the personal things won’t change one iota.

So in a week that was certainly “shaken but not stirred,” I can still get up from sleep in the morning and look out the window, and see my day unfold right in front of me like it always has.

Good luck to Biden. Good luck to Trump.

And good luck to all of us.

Have a great weekend. Speak ot you again on Monday.
