Today, we reach another milestone.
As you know, last week we hit, and surpassed, 25,000 hits to the
blog.
This week, with this post, we hit 1,800 posts for this site, and
while the number is probably higher—the numbering system went AWOL somewhere
down the line—I have been doing this for seven years, I have made hundreds of
posts since the site’s debut, and we will just leave the number as it is.
For some blogs, 1,800 really is just a number, but for this kind
of blog, it really is something.
Most blogs like this go in with the flow
for a while, and then die by the wayside.
They have no staying power, because most of them go by one single theme, and you generally can't generate a five days a week blog with just one theme.
That is what makes this blog something a little different, because the only theme it has is underlying; whatever I want to write about, I write about, and if it touches your fancy, fine, if not, then maybe the next post will.
During the past seven years or so, I have written on so many different subjects, everything from baseball to politics. Heck, a post several years ago postulated about a run by Donald Trump for the presidency, and like most people, I kind of laughed about it.
It just goes to show that I don't know everything, I can't possibly know everything, and I know that my readers can't possibly know everything, either.
The way we learn about things is through discussion, and this is really what this blog is all about: the exchange of ideas.
I never said anyone has to agree with me about anything here, and you have the right to question me on what I write.
And I also have the right to question you about your retorts, too.
That is the beauty of this thing. We can agree to disagree, and that is fine with me, as long as it doesn't get personal, which, at times, it does, on both ends of the stick.
I want to reiterate that I do this blog because I love to write, and I do not like to get pigeonholed into writing for money, which I do for a living, versus writing for this blog, which I basically do for fun.
I get paid to write for a living; I don't make one thin, red dime from writing here on the blog.
Yes, the blog is monetized, almost because it has to be, but how many of you actually click on the ads that run with each entry?
Whatever the case, the blog is fun, and to reach 1,800 posts is really neat.
I have no intention of giving this thing up, no matter what my actual job situation is, and I hope to reach another 1,800 posts in the future.
Right now, the way it plays out, blog post number 1,900 won't happen until sometime in June--it takes about six months for 100 posts, give or take--and that is what I look forward to.
Actually, I have my sights on the next post--I am far more interested in that than something that will happen six months from now.
So again, thanks for visiting, and please come again.
Like tomorrow, for Rant number 1,801.
