Guys, I am talking to you here, not the ladies, so if you are female, I thank you for coming here, but today's Rant is not for you.
Sunday is Valentine's Day.
I will repeat: Sunday is Valentine's Day.
Do not forget this day, because if you do, you will hear from your significant other for the remainder of your days.
Get her something.
Order flowers. Get her a CD or DVD she has wanted forever. Get her a gift card. Take her to dinner.
Do something to celebrate this holiday.
Valentine's Day is not for men, although the onus is on us to get our ladies something, or do something with them, to make the day special.
I have no problem doing this. I truly love my wife to pieces, so I never forget this day.
Heck, my son got his mom something too.
But let's be honest about it.
Valentine's Day is for the ladies. We are simply there to make the day special, nothing more.
My father, at one time, refused to buy my mother anything on Valentine's Day, because it is actually St. Valentine's Day. He argued that it was a Christian holiday, we are Jewish, and thus, it was not a holiday to us, like Good Friday is not a Jewish holiday.
That went over like a lead sinker with my mom, and he has over-indulged here every year since then with cards, flowers, candy, you name it.
Yes, he learned his lesson well, and quite well for a guy who was brought up in an Orthodox Jewish home.
And since my parents have been married 60 years, I can't argue with how they handled this mishap on my father's part.
Anyway, once again, I repeat, do not forget this day--even if your loved one says she doesn't want anything.
This is one case where she says "No" but actually means "Yes," probably the only case where this type of thinking prevails.
If you manage to forget the day, you are in for it big time, and you will never hear the end of it.
So do SOMETHING on this day to make it special for that special woman in your life.
That is my sage advice, and I am sticking to it.
My heart is in the right place, so heed my warnings!
You have heard of the famous "St. Valentine's Day Massacre?"
Well, if you choose to do nothing, as the song says, "You ain't seen nothin' yet ... !"
Speak to you again after President's Day, on Tuesday.
