Just some random thoughts on this Friday, as we move through 1,400 posts ...
The Israeli Election: Well, Netanyahu did win, by a slim majority. Where does this leave Israel? I believe it leaves the Jewish State better off, although a lot of people would disagree with me on this.
Sure, Israel will now probably be more isolated from the rest of the world than it has been in some time, but you know what? Maybe the world should look at Israel based on who it voted for, and respect it for the democracy that voted Bibi in for another term.
It is a nation that is fighting for its right to exist, its right to govern its people as it sees fit, its right to do what it has to do to survive. Sorry, the Palestinians have not given any indication that it wants a peaceful coexistence with Israel, and until that day comes, Israel must do what it has to do.
Did Bibi backtrack when he laid out conditions for the creation of a Palestinian State, after saying that none would ever be created under his watch? No, he did not. With the current conditions as they are, none will rise under his watch, and he knows it, so what he said really is a reiteration of what he firmly believes: that until the Palestinians renounce terrorism, and once Hamas does not lead those people, then there will be a peaceful coexistence. The Palestinians constantly reject this notion, so there will be no state as long as Bibi leads Israel.
I do believe that anyone who goes against Israel's policies are giving more credence to people who hate them, hate Jews, and hate all humanity, and we are talking about terrorists here.
If you don't support Israel, you support terrorists. Period.
Students Losing Their Minds: In the movie "Animal House," the fraternities did silly things that made us laugh, but the very premise of these fraternities, and sororities, is so antiquated that they have become somewhat ridiculous in the modern world of colleges and universities.
Just recently, several student groups have gotten into major trouble due to racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-female acts.
Funny, I thought that kids going to college were there to be educated, but it seems that these fraternities and sororities have become entities that exist so that students can become idiots.
That, I am sure, is not why parents spend what they do to send their kids to college.
Sure, not all fraternities and sororities are this bogus, but I think the time has come for these groups to be banned, period.
What is their true purpose, anyway? I never belonged to such a group, so perhaps I just don't get it.
Educate me if you feel differently.
Kennedy Death Threat: Caroline Kennedy, our ambassador to Japan, has been threatened with death by those who obviously don't like her, for whatever reason.
This is nothing to laugh at, what with what is happening in the world today, but it is especially horrid when you take into account that she is the daughter of President John F. Kennedy, who was shot and murdered in Dallas, Texas, nearly 52 years ago.
She is also the niece of Robert F. Kennedy, who was gunned down while campaigning in 1968.
So she knows violence, has experienced it through her father and uncle, and now she has to go through this latest escapade.
I am sure memories of the incidents involving her father and her uncle have gone through her head due to this threat, and while I have never been a fan of hers, I wish her well.
She, of all people, does not deserve this.
Starbucks' #Race Together Campaign: Let me tell you, the PC Police are everywhere, even in your local coffee shop.
It appears that Starbucks is encouraging its baristas to write on the cups of coffee that they put together this phrase, which is supposed to start a dialogue, for those who are interested, in race relations in this country, which have sunk to a new low under our current President, Barack Obama.
I know that this was probably well meaning, but you know what? I will talk about race relations when I want to talk about race relations, not when somebody who is brewing coffee, of all people, wants me to.
The next thing, we will be having in-restaurant dialogues with illegal aliens about their problems while I munch on my Big Mac.
Please. Again, there is a time and a place for everything.
Thank goodness I do not drink coffee, but I am sure the PC Police will get around to something I like to do and screw that up too.
Heck, I have something better for these baristas to hashtag.
How about #Coffee Is Too Expensive? Or better yet, #Putting Local Coffee Shops Out of Business?
Now I am sure those two things would get people talking.
Snow Today: No, not again.
In my neck of the woods, we are supposed to get three more inches of snow today.
This is after a couple of weeks of temperatures and weather that were really getting us into the spring and summer mode.
Now, we have to revert back to what we were experiencing just a few weeks ago, where people were ready to go after their local TV meteorologists for their forecasts.
I am hoping it is nothing but rain, but who knows.
In these parts, we could get--and have gotten--snow into the second week of April, so we aren't out of the woods just yet.
I have my shovel in the trunk of my car, and I am ready to go battle more snow if necessary.
Shorts and flip flops are right around the corner, but I guess we haven't turned that corner just yet.
Speak to you again on Monday.
