3,000

We have reached a milestone at The Ranting and Raving Blog, and it cannot go unnoticed.
Well into its bar mitzvah year of 13, The Ranting and Raving Blog has reached 3,000 posts, or thereabouts.
Mix in some posts that did not get a number and a selection of posts that kind of were mixed up number-wise, and when it is all added up, 3,000 is the official number, although it is probably slightly off.
But no matter, 3,000 it is.
Beyond the actual number of posts, what makes the number 3,000 so special?
Here is what Wikipedia had to say about it (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/3000).
“3000 (three thousand) is the natural number following 2999 and preceding 3001. It is the smallest number requiring thirteen letters in English (when "and" is required from 101 forward).”
OK, there is not much there to talk about, but the number 3,000 is noteworthy in other ways.
In 2019, there was a hit song called “I Love You 3000” by Stephanie Poetri, a song that I have never heard of, but the title of which is taken from some urban jargon where the title is used as something of a brush-off.
And then, several years before this song was released, there was a movie with the title “Mr. 3,000,” about a retired baseball player who thinks he reached the revered 3,000 hit mark during his career, finds out in retirement that he is just short of that number and comes out of retirement to reach that goal.
The 2004 movie starred comic Bernie Mac, I did see it way back when, and it was a pretty bad movie, in my opinion.
And 3,000 hits for a baseball player is a pinnacle that few have reached, and getting to and beyond that mark almost always guarantees that you have an open door into the Hall of Fame, unless you are Pete Rose—who had more than 4,000 hits—but that is a story for another time.
As far as the blog goes, I could have never imagined that when starting this blog in 2009 that I would ever reach 3,000 posts.
It didn’t seen possible to me, but here it is, 2022, and the blog has reached that milestone.
I started the blog to voice my opinion on a number of subjects, writing about things I could not do in my professional capacity as a writer/editor.
Funny how things can stay the same, but the blog continues on that same path, as I am still writing professionally, but I cannot possibly talk about the subjects that I write about here in my actual work duties.
Whatever the case, the blog is fun for me to do each weekday morning, and it gives me the perfect outlet to say what I want to say when I want to say it.
You can agree with me, vehemently disagree with me … you can nod in approval or shake your head in disgust.
Those emotions are fine.
I have my opinion as you have yours, and agreeing to disagree is fine, as long as it doesn’t get nasty.
To that I draw the line.
But generally, everything has remained civil here, so we have agreed to disagree more than throwing vitriol at each other.
Over the years, I have expanded the reach of the blog by making it available both on its blog site and on Facebook.
I have toyed in my mind with expanding it even further, possibly even putting a video version up on YouTube each day, but right now, the blog is going to be print-only … and if that changes, I will certainly let you know.
I have had a lot of fun with the blog over the years, and I hope that you have had as much fun reading it as I have had writing it.
You know where I stand on certain topics, on other topics I might surprise you, but you know that I am a Baby Boomer at heart, and that fact clearly guides me onto what I like and dislike, what I believe in and don't believe in, and not just in pop culture either.
I feel that I grew up during some great years and great times, as well as some terrible years and awful times … but I took it all in, and I try to bring that all out at the blog.
I hope that I accomplish my goal each and every weekday, and the goal is simple: to write what I want to write about and to have you read it, and become engaged with it, whether in a good way, a bad way, or a neutral way.
And I hope that over the past 13 years I have done just that.
On to 4,000!
