Rant #2,766: Oh My My

Now we have the latest governmental edict to deal with, that being that those employees of companies of more than 100 workers must get their coronavirus shots … or else.

I haven’t believed in these mandates since the first ones were doled out, but it all comes down to the same thing: either get the shots or lose your job, lose your livelihood, lose your sense of being, lose your health benefits, lose future Social Security benefits that would be coming to you if you continued your job … lose everything.

No, again, it isn’t right, but having been in that position myself when I lost my job two years ago, with absolutely no way out, let me tell those that are affected by the newest mandate and are on the fence about getting the shots:

Get the shots. The other stuff isn’t worth it to either you or your family.

Sometimes you have to do things that you don’t want to do, and this might be the perfect example of that type of situation.

And for those who steadfastly reject the mandate, and refuse to get their shots:

You are being foolish, you don’t know the quicksand that you are stepping into, and quite frankly, biting your nose to spite your face is making you into a complete and total idiot as you pound your chest and be defiant.

Why you can’t see that is beyond my comprehension.

Getting the shots is not a political move; think of it this way … you are getting the shots to protect your job.

You don’t believe the shots will protect your from getting the virus? Fine, I get that.

But the shots WILL protect your job, your livelihood.

Get the shots if for nothing else than that.

I know two people who are among the millions directly affected by this latest mandate.

One of them has been in his business for 40 years or more, and while he has steadfastly resisted getting the shots up until now, he has said that if and when a mandate was handed down—wither by his company, the state, the federal government or by all three entities—he would get the shots, and he would get it for the reasons I listed above.

He is so close to the finish line of his career, why sabotage it for this nonsense?

The other is my son.

My son has been inoculated since the summer, so that isn’t the problem.

But yesterday, via email, he got a notification that he had to tell the company that he had gotten his shots via an electronic form, and he was told he might have to prove it by bringing in his inoculation card to work if asked to do so.

Since he works two different part-time jobs, we are wondering what the other employer is going to do in this regard.

I would think probably the same thing.

Again, he has had his shots for months, and when he was rehired by the one firm, we told them that right away.

But now, he might have to actually prove it.

So be it, that is the world we live in today, and I guess you have to play to game to score the points.

And you have to further play the game if you want to do things during the pandemic, like go to concerts—my son and I had to produce our cards at the concert we went to last week—and if you want to go on cruises, etc.

That is the situation our elected legislators have pigeonholed the citizenry into, and at least right now, there is no escaping it.

You have got to get those shots whether you want to or not, whether you think they do anything or not.

I hear of people not only giving up their livelihoods, but giving up their homes because since they refuse to get the shots, they have been fired from their jobs, and they cannot pay their mortgages.

You can stand on the principle of the thing all you want, but is that really worth it?

You can get the shots even if you are firmly against the mandates. You have more of a leg to stand on if you have the shots, and protest them, than if you are not inoculated.

If I had a child of school age, I honestly don’t know what I would do about getting the shots right now. I would probably wait a bit, but you just know that a mandate is coming for that, too, so my young child would get the shots, or be shut out of school.

But let’s not put the cart before the horse.

Right now, the mandates are what they are, and although I understand your point about not getting the shots, I really think that you are being as stupid as possible for not getting them, since you evidently don’t realize how much you are giving up by standing your ground.

And that ground is getting shakier by the day.

Have a good weekend, and I will speak to you again on Monday.
