Yesterday, I purposely put up the mildest Rant that I possibly could, because a day earlier, I spoke about the Roseanne Barr incident, and it riled me to the core.
I wanted to add some civility to this site, and by putting up a Rant about birthdays, I think I successfully did just that.
But then, on the very day that I tried to add civility to this site, the world of show business made news again, because one of its own didn't know when to shut her trap.
Samantha Bee, the news/entertainment commentator that TBS shoves down viewers throats as being "provocative," sure was on her show the other day, using the fabled "C-word" to describe Ivanka Trump related to the handling of illegal immigrants in this country.
Bee was reacting to a photo put up of Trump kissing her child, stating that the photo was in bad taste related to her father, the President, and his handling of immigrants in our country illegally.
OK, that would be all fine and good. She has a right to speak out if she wants to.
But then, Bee not only crossed the line, but went over it lock, stock and barrell.
She called the younger Trump the "C-word," and it made international headlines.
This was not a tweet, edited by the tweeter, as Barr posted the other day, an act which killed her show and destroyed her career, at least for the time being.
What Bee did was put on national television, allowed to exist where we all could hear it without it being edited out by TBS.
And what's more, TBS evidently is taking no action against Bee.
Look, however the word is used, it is offensive. It is right there with the "N-word" as a word that is not used in polite company by anyone, and that includes males or females.
I would think that TBS had a chance to look at and edit its programs, and I don't know if this is considered a "live" program or not, but if it is, they probably follow the standard six or seven second difference between live and tape where machines can actually find and automatically edit out offensive terms.
Look people do say some things that kind of slip out, we all do it, but we do not do it on national TV.
And for TBS, one of the original arbiters of PC correctness, to have a chance to edit this out, and do nothing about it, allowing it to be broadcast on its network without any editing, shows where that network stands related to its own personal broadcast agenda, which, of course, ties into the left-leaning double standard employed by Hollywood in recent times.
Barr is toxic; Bee is a hero.
Barr loses her real, main voice, her TV show; Bee? The show goes on!
Let me tell you, this is wrong, wrong and wrong again.
We live in a society where entertainers and athletes are given too much credit for what they do and say apart from the areas that they make their money in.
Actors, actresses and singers shoot off their mouths on things that should be kept in their supposed brains, and some athletes feel it is their right to disparage our nation by their actions before the game even begins.
False idols ... when people worship false idols, bad things are sure to happen.
I say: enough already.
As a collective culture, we have lost our humility.
We have lost our ability to reason.
And we also have lost our common sense.
It is time for all of us, as a society, to step back and take a very, very deep breath.
Everyone appears to be so angry today, and for what reason?
And why are women going after other women in such a debased way?
It's like many women have finally been given keys to the car, and not only are they driving, but they are breaking speed records, taking out every one in their way.
Remember the film "Death Race 2000?" In real life, you don't get points for running over fellow citizens, and there is no competition to be won here.
Sure, people have the right to say what they want to say, but there is a creative, and more purposeful, way to do it than call a woman the "C-word" on national TV.
Funny, the other day on Facebook. someone put up a post about Mel Brooks' classic film "Blazing Saddles." Anyone that knows about this film knows that the movie is filled with bad taste, every stereotype under the sun, and a few scenes that make you cringe.
But it is funny as can be, a total and complete masterpiece of comedic filmmaking ...
And it is a movie that could never be made today.
It is a film that points fun at the condition of the human condition, and quite frankly, in today's world, you cannot do a film like this today because of one simple, unfortunate fact:
People have forgotten how to laugh at themselves.
We have forgotten how to have fun with human foibles; we have forgotten how stereotypes can be blasted out of the sand by making fun of them.
There was a time when we could go to the movies or watch television and be thoroughly entertained.
There was a time that we could watch sporting events and use them to get away from the realities of everyday living.
Those days are gone now.
Everything is political, everything is politically tinged and is filled with agendas--even commercials on TV, a subject which I won't get into right now but if you watch TV, I think you know what I mean--and there is absolutely no humility shown by pretty much our entire society to other members of that society.
It is time for us to take back our lives, and to not stand for this political agenda nonsense anymore.
I personally don't, and I don't discriminate.
Barr earned her lambasting, one that should have been foisted on Bee, and should have also been placed squarely on the heads of other supposed celebrities, including the stars of "The View," Madonna, Natalie Portman, Alec Baldwin, Sally Field, Kathy Griffin, the late night talk show hosts, those athletes who refuse to acknowledge our flag, and others too numerous to mention.
And even peons like you and I should be held accountable for our less than humble reactions to things happening around us.
As we go into this weekend, the weekend after the Memorial Day holiday, let's hold ourselves accountable for our actions, and stop worshipping false idols who truly believe that they are more important than they really are.
Let's believe in ourselves again.
That will truly make America great once again, not the nonsense being foisted on us by people who we shouldn't be paying any mind to in the first place.
Have a good weekend. I have something to do on Monday, so I will speak to you again on Tuesday.
