Rant #1,577: Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday

No, it obviously isn't Christmas yet, but this is my last Rant before Christmas, because like some of the world, I have a few days off starting tomorrow.

I have no problem saying "Merry Christmas" if it is justified; otherwise, I just say "Happy Holiday" and let it go at that.

If someone wishes me "Merry Christmas," someone who doesn't know me well, I pretty much say, "Have a nice holiday."

But to co-workers, people who know me, I will wish these people "Merry Christmas."

And they say to me "Have a good holiday,"and that is all right by me.

Most don't even wish me very much of anything for my holiday, but I am used to that. It isn't right, but it comes with the territory, I guess.

We as a society are getting so hung up on these salutations.

There is no war on Christmas that I know of, only a war on stupidity.

Christmas is not the only holiday celebrated this time of year, but yes, most people this time of year celebrate Christmas.

That is all fine and good, but those that believe that Christmas is the only end of the year holiday that counts are so, so mistaken, and that is who I am at war against.

A war against pure stupidity.

As far as the actual December 25, Christmas is a day off for me, little more.

This year, we are taking my father in law--who has been in the hospital for an interminable time with bad hips--out for the day, or at least for a few hours.

We asked him where he wanted to eat, and he said he wanted to go out to a kosher deli, so that is where we are going.

So I will have a nice, thick Pastrami sandwich on Christmas. I guess it works out as a gift to myself.

I am sure the day will go just fine.

So, "Merry Christmas" to all those who celebrate.

I will say "Happy Holiday" to others, but again, I mean no harm in saying this phrase.

Speak to you again on Monday.
